Vigía exists because my family lived through the Ávila wildfires and nobody warned them in time. It is free, carries no advertising, needs no sign-up and sells nobody’s data. That will not change.
What it costs to run
I would rather show you the numbers than ask for money in the abstract. Most of the infrastructure is on free plans today, and the real cost appears as usage grows: that is when the servers start billing and when sending alerts stops being free.
Contribute to the project
You decide how much. Payments are handled by Stripe: I never see or store your card details.

What it makes possible
The next thing I want to connect is Meteosat, the European satellite that watches Spain continuously. The ones we use now pass a few times a day and leave a gap of nearly five hours in the late afternoon, exactly when wildfires run hardest. Meteosat looks every fifteen minutes: it would not show where it burned in more detail, but it would tell you whether the fire is still alive right now. That is what turns «last signal 5 hours ago» into «still active, 12 minutes ago».
I am not putting a date on it because I will not promise what I do not control. When it is done, it will be told here.
Where the money goes
Vigía is not a registered charity, so your contribution is not tax-deductible. If you want a tax-deductible donation, it is better to give directly to an accredited organisation helping those affected.
Ways to help that cost nothing
- Share it with anyone who has a house or family near woodland. That is what brings us most people.
- Tell us what is wrong. If a fire shows in the wrong place or an alert arrives late, we want to know.
- Work for a council, an emergency service or a newsroom? Get in touch: reaching the people who warn neighbours multiplies the effect.
- Speak another language spoken in Spain? We could use help translating.
